Choosing between a slim fit and a modern fit is one of the most common questions we get. Here's a straightforward breakdown to help you decide which is right for you.

Modern Fit

  • More room through the chest, shoulders, and thighs
  • Clean, professional silhouette — not baggy
  • Comfortable for all-day wear and easy movement
  • Works for a wider range of body types
  • Best for broader shoulders or fuller builds

Slim Fit

  • Cut closer to the body throughout
  • Trimmer chest, tapered waist, narrower leg
  • Sharp, contemporary silhouette
  • Photographs well — great for events and weddings
  • Works best on leaner or more athletic builds

Which should you choose?

A simple way to think about it: if you want to look sharp and put-together for an event, slim fit. If you want to look professional and move comfortably all day, modern fit. Many of our customers own both — a slim fit for occasions and a modern fit for work.

Quick guide: If you typically wear fitted clothing and are comfortable in tighter cuts, go slim. If you prefer a relaxed, comfortable fit or are between sizes, go modern.

What about alterations and hemming?

All of our suit pants have an expandable waistband built in — an elastic panel that adjusts naturally to your body, so the waist fits comfortably right out of the box without tailoring.

Most customers will want to have the pants hemmed to their preferred length. A basic hem costs $15–25 at any local tailor and takes about a week. Beyond hemming, most customers find the suit fits well straight away — no major alterations needed.
